In today’s highly digitalized society, information and data about environmental issues are accessible to everyone. However, these sources often lack emotional depth and fail to engage the audience.

The project aims to address this by creating a new format that combines the charactheristics of an almanac with the ones of photojournalism. This will help communicate the complex relationship between humans and the environment, in areas vulnerable to climate change, in a more accessible and engaging manner. The result is an updated narrative of the region, integrating scientific data with historical memories and interviews.

The project specifically focuses on the Po Delta, an ecosystem of extreme fragility and sensitivity that has been endangered by local encroachments and human-induced environmental changes.

When you first land on the homepage, you’ll be greeted by a short “photo carousel” that invites you to explore the site. From there, you can easily navigate to the four different phenomenon pages and access the menu. The menu itself is divided into three secondary sections for further exploration. The content on each phenomenon page includes a guided narrative that explains how climate change affects the territory and the lives of local communities. This is done through 5 different modules: an introduction that introduces the phenomenon and the narrators who will guide the user through the story, photo-data interaction, a narrated photo carousel, territorial zoom, and geolocation.
