Belonging/Not Belonging
2023 UX/UI Design
"Belonging/Not Belonging. Indie Magazines for Social Change" was an exhibition held on November 17, 2023, at La Stecca3 in Milan. Organized by the Design Laboratory of Complex Artifacts and Systems (section C1) as part of the Master's Degree Course in Communication Design at Politecnico di Milano, it presented the outcomes of nine student groups' investigations. Each explored the theme of belonging and interpreted it through different aspects of contemporary social contexts.
The visual identity was created following a brief from the organizers, aiming to convey the theme's complexity with clarity and impact. The concept uses fragmented yet fluid lines and gradient colour transitions to evoke a sense of connection and continuity. The junction points between the lines symbolize moments of interaction and belonging, emphasizing unity in diversity.
The poster’s layout reinforces this message by allowing the textual elements to shift and adapt around the lines. This design choice celebrates the uniqueness of each line, ensuring that every element can exist authentically, without being confined to a rigid framework. The visual identity, therefore, embodies the core idea of belonging as a dynamic, evolving process that respects individuality while fostering connections.
